The Magic City Clown School was established in the fall of 2002. Currently on staff are Ziann "Q.T. Pie" Bryant, Jennie "Gloie" Bunton, Susan "Petals" Crosthwait, Janie "Ditsee" Davis, Larry "Grumpy" Davis, Charlotte Lot-Tee-Dah" Dismukes, Clydene "Lil' Darlin" Dyer, Rick "Mo Mo the Hobo" Higgins, Leara "Fanci" Pollock, Steve "Duke" Spencer, Diane "Tootles" Rochester and Linda "Lindy Lou" Wolfe.
In order to graduate from clown school, the student must complete an eight-week course held on Monday nights from 5:45-9:00 pm in downtown Birmingham and participate in graduation exercises; must attend 7 of the 8 regularly scheduled classes; and must pay the student fee to cover supplies needed for class work. .
Classes are limited to 12 students per semester and are offered on a first-come basis. .
Anyone interested in the art of clowning or in the field of wholesome family entertainment is welcome to join this group.
Classes taught include the three types of clown faces, costuming, balloon twisting, facepainting, skits, clown mannerisms, puppetry, magic, music in clowning, ministry clowning, hospital clowning, as well as many other areas of clowning.
